Effingham Democratic Committee Chairperson Tony Chiariello has announced that a special election to select Effingham County Democratic delegates to the Georgia State Democratic Convention will take place at the regularly scheduled monthly committee meeting on Aug. 16, at 6 p.m. at the Effingham Health System Human Resources Office at 701 First St. in Springfield. This building is often referred to as the Old Church building, which sits directly across from Veterans' Memorial Park off Hwy 21 South. As usual, pizza and soda will be served. The Georgia State Democratic Convention will take place in Atlanta at the Omni Hotel on Aug. 25. This meeting is open to the public and all interested citizens are encouraged to attend. Scheduled to appear at the meeting is Francys Johnson, the Democratic candidate for U.S. House of Representatives District 12, which includes parts of Effingham County. Johnson is opposing Rep. Rick Allen, a Republican incument. Also scheduled to appear is Adam Bridges, the Democratic candidate for Georgia State House District 161, which includes parts of Effingham County.
