SPRINGFIELD, Ga. — A man is in custody after a fatal shooting Tuesday night in a Springfield neighborhood, authorities said.
Effingham County sheriff’s deputies responded to a home on Hummingbird Lane just after 9 p.m. Nov. 4 after reports of gunfire and property damage. When they arrived, they found a man dead outside the home from an apparent gunshot wound, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators identified the suspected shooter as Alonzo Jolomna Simaj, who fled the scene and was later arrested in Chatham County. Capt. Gene Harley and the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division took Simaj into custody off Ogeechee Road, officials said.
The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of family.
Simaj is charged with felony murder, and additional charges are expected, according to Capt. Steve Edenfield of the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division.
