McDaniel declares for tax commissioner seat

Linda McDaniel has qualified to run for the position as tax commissioner as a Republican.

McDaniel is a lifelong resident of Effingham County and currently lives in the Guyton area. She is a member of Guyton’s Pine Street Baptist Church, where she serves as the church clerk and has been a Sunday school teacher for more than 20 years.

McDaniel, 57, is assistant director of the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce. She also serves as the chairman of the Effingham County Department of Family and Children Services board. She is past president and serves on the board of the state Association of the Department of Family and Children Services.

She is also a board member of the Ferst Foundation, a children’s literacy program. She is a member of the Historic Effingham-Ebenezer Scenic Byway Committee and is secretary of the Olde Effingham Days committee. McDaniel also is secretary of the Effingham Sunrise Rotary Club.

She is married to Ronnie McDaniel and they have two children and six grandchildren
 


Rincon City Council Approves First Pay Raise in 14 Years

Rincon City Council voted unanimously Monday to approve its first pay raise in 14 years, increasing council members’ pay to $750 per month and the mayor’s pay to $950 per month starting next year. The raises will apply to those elected in November, when three council seats and the mayor’s office will be on the ballot.
