MLK Jr. Day activities set

The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day observance breakfast will be held Monday at 7:30 a.m. at the Effingham County Administrative Complex.

The annual parade through Springfield will begin at 10 a.m., with Guyton City Council alderman Dr. Brenda R. Lovett as the grand marshal.

The youth program awards will be held at noon Monday at the Effingham County Recreation gym on Highway 119. The winner of this year’s theme “Paved by the Past and Empowered by the Future Generation,” is Natalyn M. Harris of Effingham County High School. Second place went to Austin Carter of South Effingham Middle School for “Together, We Can Reach Dr. King’s Dream,” and third place went to Deshaun Wilkerson of Effingham County High School for “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. – A Leader of Vision and Dreams.”

All churches, civic groups, clubs and organizations are encouraged to participate in the parade.

The evening program will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at Royal Temple Holiness Church in Guyton.
