GUYTON — Despite a slow start to the season, South Effingham basketball coach James Finlen said his boys team is on the verge of turning things around.
The Mustangs lost to Bluffton (S.C.) and Effingham County last week.
“Although we came up short, I thought we played some of our best basketball of the season,” Finlen said. “We had more assists in that (Effingham County) game than any other, but we did not shoot very well and came up short from the free throw line.”
The Mustangs are 2-8. Finlen, however, pointed out that their losses have been against some of the best teams in the state.
“So far this season, our losses have come against opponents with a combined record of 39-8, so at least we are competing against quality competition, which should serve us well as we approach our region schedule,” he said.
