Edies Cope, president of the Effingham County Branch of the NAACP, has announced that this year’s annual gala will take place Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. at the New Ebenezer Family Retreat and Conference Center, 2887 Ebenezer Road, Rincon.
Cope reported that she and her branch members are excited that the theme of the gala is “Steadfast and Moving Forward.” Accordingly, she added that the main speakers are Sen.Jack Hill, Rep. Jon Burns and Rep. Bill Hitchens of the Georgia General Assembly.
The local state legislators will make a presentation similar to what they do on a sem-annual basis at the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce’s “Eggs and Issues” events. They will update the extended the audience on what is happening at the state legislative level and how it impacts the residents of Effingham County.
Fran Baker-Witt, CEO of Effingham Health System, and Dr. Torian White, the first-year principal of South Effingham High School, will share hosting duties.
Tickets cost $40. They entitle the holder to a meal and refreshments provided by the staff at the New Ebenezer Retreat and Conference Center.

A program/advertising journal is being compiled by Nella Lonon and otjer members of the branch. It will be presented to the gala attendees.
