Operation Lucky Charms results in 677 citations

 PORT WENTWORTH -- Port Wentworth Police Department Chief Matthew Libby announced Monday the results of Operation Lucky Charms 2022. 

Operation Lucky Charms is the Port Wentworth Police Department’s annual operation that targets aggressive, distracted, and impaired driving. It is always conducted around the St. Patrick’s Day holiday period.  The goal of this operation, which resulted in 677 citations, is to keep  citizens safe from those that choose to drive unsafely. This is a zero tolerance operation designed to help educate the public on safe driving practices. 

The operation started March 16 and ended Sunday. During this time frame, Port Wentworth officers compiled the following statistics:

24 -- No valid insurance

103  -- Driver’s License violations 

 113 -- Speeding/too fast for conditions

28 -- Adult seat belt violations

20--  Child/car seat violations

Eight-four arrests were made.

13 -- DUI

6 -- wanted 

36 -- Drug related

 11 -- Firearms recovered (3 confirmed stolen from outside of the Port Wentworth area)

Marijuana recovered: approximately 12.1 ozs.

Liquid codeine recovered: approximately 32 ozs.

Cocaine recovered: approximately 16 grams

Various amounts of other illegal narcotics and prescription medications were discovered.
