MINOR SPILL REPORTED TO EPD: EPD Coastal District 400 Commerce Center Dr. Brunswick, Ga. 31523

 DATE OF MINOR SPILL: April 7, 2020 

REPORT SUBMITTED: April 7, 2020 

LOCATION OF MINOR SPILL: Field adjacent to 110 Santa Anita Way, Rincon, GA 31326 

CAUSE OF SPILL: This spill was caused by a broken force main pipe buried in the field adjacent to the lift station.

 ESTIMATED DISCHARGE: It is estimated that less than 7000 gallons of wastewater was discharged into waters of the state. 

RECEIVING WATERS: Drainage system contiguous to a series of (2) adjacent storm water retention ponds which are connected to tributary systems of the Ogeechee River. 

CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN: Crews responded within 20 minutes of being notified and began vacuum excavation operations to capture and recover the discharged wastewater. The broken section of pipe has been replaced and the system returned to normal operation within 2 hours. 

The immediate soil area was neutralized with calcium hydroxide. 

GA EPD was called and notified 04/07/2020. No visible signs of negative impacts were found in the affected waters or to aquatic wildlife.
