Recount upholds victory

Former state Rep. Lee Anderson will face John Barrow for the U.S. 12th House District seat in Georgia, after a recount upheld Anderson’s runoff victory.

Anderson was the leading vote-getter in the July 31 Republican primary in a field of four candidates and went up against Augusta businessman Rick Allen in an Aug. 21 runoff. Anderson beat Allen in the runoff 13,785-13,626, a margin of 159 votes.

The spread between the two was only .58 percent, so a recount was granted automatically once Allen requested it.

Barrow, an Augusta Democrat, is seeking a fifth term in Congress.

Barrow and Anderson will oppose each other in the Nov. 6 general election.
