Annual Rincon 4th of July Parade and Festival

Parade lineup begins at 9 a.m. at Macomber Park.

Parade starts at 10 a.m

Parade route will follow Lexington Avenue to 4th Street and then to Highway 21 before returning to Lexington Avenue.

Festival begins after the parade and will be held behind Rincon Elementary School.

The city of Rincon is ready for its annual 4th of July parade.

The parade will start at 10 a.m. at Macomber Park and interest in the procession has been good, said organizer Gussie Nease.

“I thought it was going to be smaller than last year,” she said, “but it’s going to be equally as long as it was last year. We’re excited about it.”

Mainstays Georgia-Pacific, known and popular for dispensing paper goods throughout the crowd, and First Baptist Church of Rincon will be in the parade.

“They always do a good job with their float,” Nease said of the church.

Several other area churches, Ronald McDonald and many veterans also are expected to take part. Also, families of Georgia Army National Guardsmen deployed to Afghanistan are anticipated to be part of the proceedings.

“It’s a time to showcase your business in the parade and get out and enjoy the day to be patriotic,” Nease said.

Lineup of the parade entries will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday.

“I welcome anyone who wants to be in it. Just let me know,” Nease said.

After the parade, the city is holding a festival behind Rincon Elementary School that will run until 2 p.m. The festival will include a firefighter relay and a pie-eating contest that is open to anyone, said Kia Westmoreland, the festival organizer. There also will be activities for the kids, including inflatables and a baseball toss, along with food and crafts vendors.

The theme for the festival is “As American as Apple Pie and Baseball.” Contestants in the pie-eating contest will be digging into apple pies.

“We’re expecting a good crowd,” Westmoreland said. “There will be something for everyone.”
