Special to the Herald

My name is Scott Varnadore, and I am asking for a chance to represent the great people of District 4. I wasn’t born here, but I grew up here and got to know a good many of you on a personal basis. I went to high school here where I met and married the love of my life Yvette Seckinger, now Varnadore. We have a 19-year-old son, Samuel Varnadore, who was born and reared here.  My family attends Clyo Community Church where I serve as a Lay Leader, and as of this month I will be a Lay Minister.

Now, on to my professional career. Anyone who has ever worked with me or for me knows the amount of dedication I put into my work. I have 17 years of experience in the construction field learning how to read blueprints and understanding what it takes to actually build. I've worked in all three fields: residential, commercial, and industrial. I have seven years working for the Effingham County Sheriff's Office as a Sergeant for the Jail Division, giving me leadership skills required to make hard decisions. There, I ran the Jail Division, Transport Division, and helped with the Courts. I spent a year in Code Enforcement working for Zoning where I learned how the County works. As the enforcement arm of the county, I was in charge of timber permitting, investigating public dumping, preconstruction meetings, LDA inspections, enforcing all codes and ordinances, prosecuting cases before the Magistrate Judge, just to name a few. This is where I learned how the decisions our commissioners make have real-world effects on everyday citizens.

Given the experiences I obtained from these different trades, it has made me uniquely qualified for the Commissioners seat.  We are at a time where we need politicians who actually listen to their constituents and act on their wants and needs.  As a member of this community for over 30 years, I understand the challenges we face. It is a balance of maintaining what makes this community great while respecting everyone’s property rights. I am committed to transparency and accountability. I will be open and honest with you about the decision I make and the actions I take. I will work to ensure our government is accountable to the people it serves.
