Sheriff's Office issues warning about dangerous suspect on loose

SPRINGFIELD -- The Effingham County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help in locating an armed fugitive.

At 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Effingham County deputies assisted the Bloomingdale Police Department with a vehicle pursuit that entered Effingham County. The vehicle was stolen and believed to be involved in an armed robbery. The pursuit ended when the suspect crashed on Hickory Lane.

The male exited the vehicle and fled on foot toward Hwy 17.

At approximately 11:22 p.m., deputies received a call of a home invasion in the 2600 block of Hwy 17. A K-9 track was attempted but the subject is still at large.

At approximately 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, deputies received a similar call in the 200 block of Sandhill Road where the suspect committed a second home invasion.

The subject is described as a black male with a dark complexion. He is approximately 5-foot-10 and 200 to 225 pounds. He was last seen wearing a light shirt and dark pants.

The subject is considered armed and dangerous.

He was last seen on Sandhill Road and Falagan Street.
