SPRINGFIELD -- The Weekday Education Ministries has closed after allegations of abuse.

The daycare, a ministry of First Baptist Church of Springfield, was closed at the direction of the pastor who has been cooperative and helpful throughout an Effingham County Sheriff's Office investigation.

On Sept. 6,  a report was filed at the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office about alleged abuse taking place at the daycare. A three-year-old child was the initial cause for concern.

The Criminal Investigative Division uncovered an additional incident of alleged abuse -- this time involving an 18-month-old child with visible marks.

After interviewing witnesses to the incident, detectives determined the director of the daycare, Lynn Anderson had been made aware of the abuse and failed to report it to law enforcement or the Department of  Family and Children Services.

Abigale Hutshell was charged with second-degree cruelty to a child. She was given a bond and was set to be released Monday.

Anderson will be charged with failure to report child abuse.
