Cleanup from a powerful storm that swept through Effingham County just before dawn Tuesday morning got under way quickly.

Damage from the storm, which hit the county just before 5 a.m., was reported throughout the county and areas of Rincon were especially hard hit, particularly the Picket Fences subdivision off West 15th Street.

Effingham County Emergency Management Director Walter Wright said they have taken pictures of the damage to send to the National Weather Service office in Charleston, S.C. Meteorologists there will review radar loops of the storm and the pictures to determine if the storm was a tornado.
