Superintendent announces tentative graduation dates

SPRINGFIELD -- Superintendent Dr. Randy Shearouse announced Wednesday night that tentative dates for in-person graduation ceremonies have been set in June for Effingham County and South Effingham high schools..

The decision was made following a Wednesday news conference where Gov. Brian Kemp announced a continued need for social distancing until at least May 31, preventing in-person ceremonies from going off Friday and Saturday as originally planned. 

Virtual commencement for Effingham County and South Effingham will still take place Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., respectively, 

As an additional option, a drive-through graduation for seniors and their families will be conducted at Effingham County on Friday and South Effingham on Saturday. Details are still in the works.

The seniors will proceed through the campus and around the circle in front of their school to receive their diploma.Students n need of transportation may receive assistance from the schools.

A photographer will be on side to take free pictures.

The in-person ceremonies for Effingham County and South Effingham are set for June 26 and June 27, respectively, at 8 p.m.
