Washington, D.C. — U.S. Rep. John Barrow (D-Savannah) has received the endorsement of the Georgia Association of Educators (GAE) and the NEA Fund for Children and Public Education, the political action committee of the National Education Association, in his campaign for re-election to the House of Representatives.

“The Georgia Association of Educators which recommended your candidacy, and The NEA Fund, applaud your commitment to public education and children,” said Reg Weaver, NEA Fund Chairperson in his letter to Congressman Barrow informing him of the endorsement. “The NEA Fund and the GAE are proud to support the election of federal candidates, like you, who measure up on the issues that most concern our members.”

“This endorsement isn’t just a great honor, it has a lot of personal significance for me,” said Barrow.  “My mother was a teacher, two of my sisters were teachers, and both my kids go to public school, so I place the highest value on providing a high quality public education for every kid in this country.

“The teachers and education support professionals in this country are on the front line of protecting our kids’ futures and keeping this country competitive.  They’re also the ones taking care of our kids while we’re at work.  That’s why I’m committed to doing everything I can to support them.  This endorsement means a lot, because it means I’m doing right by our teachers, and they’re doing the most important work in the country.”

Barrow will face former state senator Regina Thomas (D-Savannah) in the July 15 primary.
