Jan Tittle of Rincon was elected national vice president of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. at the 94th national convention of the Ladies Auxiliary held Aug. 18-23 at the Bartle Hall Convention Center in Kansas City.

Tittle, a member of the Tech. Sgt. Walter C. Fulda Auxiliary No. 3433, is now in the fourth of five offices leading to the national presidency, which she is expected to hold in 2009-10.

Presiding over the convention, National President Linda Meader lauded the 3,500 attendees for achieving so much for veterans and their communities this year. She thanked members for volunteering 1.4 million hours in hospitals, raising more than $2.9 million for the organization’s cancer aid and research fund and donating more than $280,000 for Operation Uplink to provide long-distance telephone cards to troops and hospitalized veterans.

Meader had the privilege of signing a declaration of sisterhood with the National Women’s League of the Republic of China. Chairman Cecelia Y. Koo of the NWL traveled from Taipei, Taiwan, to sign the proclamation in unity of purpose.

The national winners of the patriotic art, junior girls and outstanding young volunteer of the year contests were introduced and honored by the organization. Members could view the four winning art entries throughout the week-long convention.
