A teenager from Warner Robins was killed Tuesday afternoon after the pickup he was driving struck an oncoming wrecker and flipped on Sandhill Road, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Kyle David Turansky, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene after his 2008 Ford F-150 crossed the center line and collided with a medium-sized commercial tow truck. Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene on Sandhill Road around 3 p.m.

According to the State Patrol, the front of the pickup struck the left side of the wrecker and continued down the left side before overturning on the passenger side on the east shoulder of the road. The driver of the tow truck saw Turansky’s vehicle cross the center line and attempted to get off the road.

The pickup caught fire, and several witnesses tried to put out the fire with extinguishers but they were unable to keep the fire at bay. They exhausted all the extinguishers before fire department units arrived.
