Chamber thankful for support of its Oktoberfest

Dear Editor:

Effingham County came together this past Friday and Saturday to support a new community event and support it you did. Over 3,500 people came out to enjoy the Effingham Chamber’s first annual Effingham Oktoberfest at McCall Plaza.

This was a great two-day festival, filled with great entertainment, great food, and beverage, and wonderful arts and crafts vendors along with community groups and sponsors. A festival like this can’t happen without the help and support of a great many people.

We want to give a special word of thanks to our many volunteers who donated their time to help light, decorate, clean, sell cokes, T-shirts, mugs and beer. For their work in the beergarden, the Springfield Revitalization Corporation earned money for the restoration of the historic Mars Theatre in Springfield. Thanks also to our Board and Chamber Ambassadors for volunteering so much of their time and to our Board President, Randy Shearouse, for his help in the Coke booth.

For a first year event that had its share of challenges with power and the weather, the support of the entire community made this a successful, fun, and safe event. Thanks also to all of our wonderful sponsors. For an event that cost over $20,000 to produce, we couldn’t have put on a quality event without your support.

Thanks to our community for making our first year such a great one. See you next year!
