SPRINGFIELD -- Miquel Allen ran for a touchdown and caught another to lead Effingham County to a season-opening 21-13 win over Grovetown on Friday night.
Allen's 1-yard burst broke a 13-13 deadlock in the third quarter. He caught a 22-yard screen pass from Zach Garcia 35 seconds before the end of the first half to help ECHS tie the game.
The Rebels' defense, however, was the key to the win, holding Grovetown to 85 yards and four first downs.
ECHS will be back in action next Friday at home against Benedictine.
