SPRINGFIELD, Ga. — Effingham County High School’s most prolific scoring offense in school history was duly rewarded when the Class 5A Region 1 all-region football teams were announced last week.
The Rebels, who averaged 37.9 points per game, placed eight players on the first-team all-region offense, including quarterback Tucker Perkins, receivers Trayvis Hunter and Isaiah Brown, running back Jmere Doe-Davis and tight end Devaughn Jones.
Overall, 31 ECHS players earned all-region recognition — eight first-team offense, five second-team offense, three first-team defense, five second-team defense and 10 honorable mentions.
“We had good numbers, and I’m happy for them to be represented. I wish I had them all coming back next year,” said Rebels coach John Ford, whose team finished second in the region and advanced to the state playoffs for the fifth straight season.
ECHS won eight games, its most since 2002.
Perkins, receivers fuel record offense
A year ago, Perkins earned the region’s Offensive Player of the Year award. While his statistics dipped, his 2025 numbers still impressed despite missing nearly two full games. Perkins threw for 1,492 yards with 19 touchdown passes and just three interceptions.
“Tucker’s a dynamic threat with his arm,” Ford said. “He had some injuries early, and that cut down on his chances, but he was a big part of the offense.”
With three of Perkins’ primary targets graduating, Hunter and Brown stepped up. Hunter finished with 46 catches for 677 yards and six touchdowns, while Brown totaled 25 receptions for 430 yards and five scores despite missing three games.
Doe-Davis, a junior, continued his rise toward elite running back status with his first 1,000-yard season. He rushed for 1,023 yards, recorded four 100-yard games, scored eight touchdowns and averaged 8.6 yards per carry.
Defensive standouts recognized
Defensive lineman Landon Carter (16 tackles for loss), linebacker Duff Davis (team-high 54 tackles) and safety Jernard Albright (50 tackles, two interceptions) highlighted the Rebels’ defensive honorees.
South Effingham shows major improvement
South Effingham, one of the most improved teams in the state after going from zero wins in 2024 to four victories this season, placed two players on the first-team all-region offense and two on the first-team defense. In total, 12 Mustangs earned all-region honors.
Running back Khyran White rushed for 1,002 yards and five touchdowns to earn first-team recognition.
Inside linebacker Corey Woods led the Mustangs in tackles (102), tackles for loss (seven) and sacks (four), earning first-team all-region honors on defense.
South Effingham’s defense improved by nearly 17 points per game, allowing 29.3 points in 2025 after surrendering 46 per game in 2024.
