GUYTON -- Region 2-AAAAAA champion South Effingham cruised into the second round of the state playoffs Monday by hammering Heritage-Conyers 10-1 and 8-0 in a best-of-three set.

Heritage socked three hits in the first inning of the opening game to take a 1-0 lead. From that point, however, winning pitcher Bailey Kendziorski was in complete control. The Lady Patriots collected just three more hits during the next nine innings of the doubleheader.

Hot-hitting Caraline Stone paced the Lady Mustangs at the plate in the first game, ripping two hits and plating three runs. Whitney Thompson scored three runs and Alex Borwn and Avery Roddenberry each touched the plate twice.

Kaley Stone provided an offensive spark with two RBI.

In the second game, South Effingham scored at least one run in each of the five frames. Caraline Stone and Kendziorski each had two hits, and Brown, Emma Darrow and Peighton Capwell scored two runs apiece.

The Lady Mustangs, who totaled 17 stolen bases in the games against Heritage, will host Lakeside-DeKalb or Northside-Warner Robins in round two Thursday.
