Mustangs clinch rivalry series for third straight year

GUYTON -- A two-run single by Zach Zorbo and a two-run double by Nick Milbrandt highlighted a four-run third inning and propelled South Effingham to a 7-2 victory over Effingham County on Friday night.

South Effingham (20-7) won twice in a three-game set that started Monday, marking the third straight year it gained supremacy in the county rivalry.

Milbrandt pitched six innings, allowing just two runs while scattering six hits. He struck out five and walked none.

Blake Hendrix had two hits and drive in a run for the Rebels, who fell to 13-14.

Effingham County and South Effingham will renew their softball rivalry with two non-region games during the 2025 regular season, after missing each other on the 2024 schedule due to GHSA realignment. Coaches agreed to resume the series, long considered one of the area’s most competitive matchups.
