JESUP -- Eighteen up and 18 down. That describes Nevaeh Herrod's afternoon on the mound Thursday.

Herrod, a freshman, didn't allow a hit and her teammates were flawless in the field behind her as South Effingham blanked Wayne County 9-0 in a six-inning Region 2-AAAAA softball game. She threw only 57 pitches.

The Lady Mustangs gave Herrod, who logged two strikeouts, all the support she would need in the second frame when they erupted for four runs. Natalie Easterling drove in two with a hard single. Alex Brown and Kaley Stone added RBI groundouts late in the inning.

Brown led her team with three hits, an RBI and two runs scored.

Ashleigh Woods and Stone joined Easterling with two RBI.
