Last week was a difficult one for the South Effingham softball team. The Lady Mustangs won one of six games.

The rough patch started Aug. 20 with a 9-6 Region 2-AAAAA loss to Ware County. The Mustangs led entering the final frame at The Corral.

Hayee Johnson got South Effingham back on track Thursday by  tossing a one-hit home shutout in a 9-0 rout of New Hampstead.

In a tournament in Allatoona on Friday and Saturday, however, the Mustangs lost 5-4, 16-2,  8-0 and 12-3 to Calhoun, Northside-Warner Robins, Cherokee and Creekview, respectively, to drop to 6-8.
