GUYTON -- The South Effingham Mustangs are ready to try to grind an opponent into their new turf.
On Friday at 7:30 p.m., the Mustangs will play Islands in their first game on their new artificial surface. The Sports Turf installation cost $1,369,329.
Sports Turf makes a state-of-the-art product. Its features include:
— A dense, three-fiber turf system for a firm and durable surface
— More accessible for special-needs students, allowing for wheel chairs to maneuver more freely for activities
— Organic, sustainable infills to dramatically reduce field temperatures
— Shock pad technology specifically engineered to optimize safety for athletes during impacts to the surface reducing concussions and lower extremity injuries
Effingham County is set to debut a Sports Turf Field on Sept. 9 against Southeast Bulloch. That project cost more, $2,117,710, as it included required substantial changes to ensure proper drainage.
The schools' soccer and lacrosse teams will use the turf fields. They will also be used by the Effingham County Recreation Department.
