Girls state track meet under way

South Effingham’s Tiacara Mack finished first in her qualifying heat in the 300-meter hurdles and had a time of 15.94 seconds in the 100 hurdles preliminaries at the Class AAA girls state track meet Thursday night at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany. Her time in the 100 was the ninth best in the qualifying heats, and the top eight times are taken for the finals.

Mack won the Region 3-AAA 100 hurdles in 15.47 and the 300 hurdles in 46.27.

Effingham County’s Gabrielle Houston, who won the Region 3-AAAA 400-meter dash and was second in the 100 dash, and Sierra Goldwire, winner of the 200 dash, had their preliminaries late Friday afternoon. Houston has made the state track meet all four years. The 4x100 relay team of Houston, Goldwire, Jasmine Johnson and Brettany Griffin also had their heat trial late Friday afternoon.
