Later this summer, former South Effingham High School star running back Keith Glover will take a crack at an NFL roster.
Glover has been playing indoor football and has lined up some workouts with NFL teams.
“Hopefully, those will go well,” he said last week.
Glover was an active participant as a coach in last week’s Mini Mustang football camp at South Effingham High and said he was glad to get the chance to work with the vastly younger players.
“I love being around kids,” he said, after exhorting his young charges in a sprint to the shelter after the end of their day. “It’s fun because some kids don’t get the opportunity to meet professional athletes. It’s motivation for them.”
It’s something he wishes he could have done when he was the same age as the campers he led through drills and games.
“As I was growing up, I never had any camp to go to,” Glover said. “My mom and dad pushed me, but I never got a chance to go to any camp as a child.”
Glover, who rushed for 4,005 yards and 61 touchdowns in his high school career, originally signed with Georgia Military College out of high school and has been playing in indoor football leagues.
Glover isn’t taking time off this summer. He’s running early in the morning and at night to stay in shape. The Mini Mustang campers kept him on his toes, too.
“You get to (be around) the kids, so they’re gonna have fun regardless,” he said.
