Event that launched Champions Tour starts Friday at Westin Savannah course

In celebration of its 30th anniversary, the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf Tournament will be giving commemorative pins to the first 300 guests that pass through the main gate on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets are available at the gate for this week’s Champions Tour event at The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa. Daily tickets will be priced at $30 per day at the gate, and weekly tickets will be priced at $75.  Fans can save $5 by purchasing daily tickets at local Kroger Super Markets for $25 per day throughout the tournament.  

“We are extremely excited to be entering our 30th year of the tournament,” said Tim Iley, the tournament’s executive director.  “Each year gets better and better.  Tickets are selling fast and having them available at the main gate and Kroger will allow golf fans to save time or to save money when purchasing their tickets.”

The 30th annual Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf is the premier event on the Champions Tour.  The list of committed players includes true golfing legends such as defending champion Jay Haas, Tom Watson, Craig Stadler, Nick Price, Johnny Miller, Mark O’Meara, Tom Kite, Lee Trevino, Curtis Strange and Fuzzy Zoeller.   

In addition to seeing the greatest names on the Champions Tour compete at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa,ticket holders can stay after play on Friday and Saturday and enjoy live concerts on the 18th green.  The 98.7 The River Concert Series kicks off on Friday with The 8 Tracks and continues on Saturday with the band Bottles n Cans. The concerts are free to all ticket holders and begin after the last putt drops each day.

Plus, for the first time at the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf in Savannah, Winn Grips presents Golfweek’s Golfest on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Golfest is free to all ticket holders. Don’t miss a chance to learn from the celebrities such as ESPN contributor Suzy Whaley, Dennis Walters of the Dennis Walters Golf Show, and trick shot-master Peter Johncke. Winn Grips will even re-grip one club for free during Golfest.

The official opening ceremony is set for Friday at 7:15 a.m. with a special tribute to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the tournament and pay tribute to the 3rd Infantry Division.

The ceremony will have several notable events including a special musical presentation of America the Beautiful by the Savannah Children’s Choir under the direction of Roger Moss in honor of the 3rd ID as they deploy for their third tour of duty in Iraq.  

Capt. Michael Wills, commander of the 260th Quartermaster Battalion’s 10th Transportation Company, has been chosen to hit the ceremonial first shot to open the 30th Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf tournament.

"We are thrilled to have Capt. Wills kick off the tournament. We expect this, our 30th year of the tournament, to be better than ever with great golf, beautiful weather and great entertainment."
