John Roberts homered and drove in two runs, and Colby May went 2-for-3 with an RBI as the South Effingham Mustangs won their 2008 home baseball opener Thursday night, beating Jenkins 4-1.

Ben Richardson gave the Warriors (0-2) a 1-0 lead in the first inning off starter Zach Anderson, but Jenkins only mustered two hits all night off Mustangs’ pitching. Anderson, in addition to getting the win on the mound, went 1-for-2 at the plate with a run.

Chris Zittrouer tripled and scored for the Mustangs, who finished with seven hits. May had a double among his two hits and got the save, closing out the win for Anderson and the Mustangs (1-1).

The Mustangs traveled to Evans this weekend to face Lee County and host Evans and will meet Jenkins again on Monday.
