Passed ball gives Devils decisive run against Mustangs

The South Effingham Effingham Mustangs forced a seventh-inning tie at Statesboro on Wednesday only to fall a short of victory a short while later 7-6.

The Blue Devils plated the winning run via a two-out passed balI to hand South Effingham (11-10, 4-1) its first Region 2-AAAAA setback.

The Mustangs' Brice Ogle tied the contest 6-6 with a two-run double in the final frame. Ogle led his team with two hits, a total matched by Nick Duke.

Ogle and Logan Rahn each drove in two runs.

Jakob Valleroy started on the mound for the Mustangs, working five innings.  He gave up eight hits and six earned runs while walking three.

Jakob Gross succeeded Valleroy. He allowed three hits and the winning run in 1 2/3 innings.

The finale of the three-game series will be played Thursday at 6 p.m. in Guyton. It was originally slated for Friday but was changed because of the high probability of rain.

South Effingham won Monday's opener at home 4-3. The Mustangs tallied the winning run in their final at-bat.
