AASU sets Pirate Preview for Feb. 22

Armstrong Atlantic State University will host an open house for prospective students and their parents to learn how to start strong at Armstrong.

At the Pirate Preview open house, students and their families can meet with Armstrong students and faculty, learn about the admission and financial aid process and tour the university campus and freshman residential housing.

Students will have the opportunity to meet representatives from various academic departments as well as select student services offices.

Effingham School Board Approves $203M budget with Potential Property Tax Increase

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
