Armstrong State to hold Start Strong, Start New event

Armstrong State University will host a one-day registration event for new students to apply, be admitted and sign up for fall classes. Designed to kick start careers in growing fields including information technology, business economics, health science and more, this event is tailored to working professionals, though traditional students are also welcome.

The Start Strong, Start Now event will be held Dec. 18 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Student Union, building 11 on ASU’s main campus.

All application fees will be waived for the event. Pre-registration is encouraged to speed up the process.

Effingham School Board Approves $203M budget with Potential Property Tax Increase

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
