Baccalaureate to be May 17 at FBC Rincon

The Effingham Ministers’ Fellowship will sponsor the annual baccalaureate for graduates of Effingham County High School and South Effingham High School on Sunday at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Rincon.

Graduates are asked to wear their caps and gowns, and arrive early at the back portico entrance of the church to line up for the processional.

Testimonies, scripture and prayer will be given by graduating seniors of South Effingham High School and Effingham County High School.

The guest speaker will be Katie Webster. Webster is a high school teacher at Calvary Day School, frequent speaker, and director of the women’s ministry at Springfield United Methodist Church. She has a master’s degree in education, and is pursuing a Master of Divinity degree at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington.

Music will be led by Lawanda Allen, director of choral music at Ebenezer Middle School. Allen has taught many students who went on to both South Effingham High School and Effingham County High School.

The public is invited to attend.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
