Barrow to host military academy day Saturday

U.S. Rep. John Barrow (D-Savannah) will host a statewide Military Academy Day event at the Benedictine Military School in Savannah on Saturday.

Barrow will be joined by representatives, cadets, and midshipmen from all five military academies to explain more about their admissions requirements and expectations.  They will be available to answer questions from parents and students.

The event will be held at the Benedictine Military School from 9-11 a.m. to familiarize students with the application and nomination process for applying to the nation’s five service academies.

Benedictine Military School is located at 6502 Seawright Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
