On Tuesday, Blandford Elementary honored its first graduating class, the class of 2007.

Blandford Elementary School, Effingham County’s newest school opened its doors in August 2006. School district lines were redrawn and some students from Rincon Elementary and South Effingham Elementary joined to form Blandford Elementary.

It opened with many more students than projected and ended the year with approximately 700 students.

Blandford Elementary was named for the area where we are located. In the early 1900’s a railway was built through Effingham county. Railroad depots were constructed along the way and small communities developed. The depot, located at the intersection of Blue Jay Road, was named for the chief engineer, R.A. Bland, thus the name Blandford.

The school mascot is the Blue Jay, named for the main road through the Blandford community.
