BPC May 2007 honor graduates announced

MOUNT VERNON —  Stanley Mongin of Springfield was named Brewton-Parker College Honor Graduate during the May 12 commencement ceremony, announced Dr. T. Ronald Melton, provost.

Mongin earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, cum laude. He is one of 26 BPC honor graduates completing degrees in the spring 2007 semester.

The college grants the distinction of graduation with honors to those students whose academic work meets the following standards based on a grade point average (GPA) scale with a 4.0 as the highest mark of achievement: cum laude (3.5-3.69 GPA), magna cum laude (3.7-3.89 GPA), and summa cum laude (3.9-4.0).

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
