Curtis graduates with honors from Georgia State

Jacob Curtis of Rincon graduated summa cum laude from Georgia State University with a bachelor’s degree in music technology.

While at Georgia State, Curtis was in the honors program for all four years. He was principal trumpet in the symphonic wind ensemble for two years. This ensemble is comprised of the most advanced woodwind, brass and percussion players in the Georgia State University School of Music, selected each semester by audition. It is recognized as one of the finest ensembles of its type in Georgia.

He is the son of Charlie and Denise Curtis of Rincon and was the 2010 valedictorian of Effingham County High School.

He is currently employed at Doppler Studios in Atlanta with designs on becoming a premier music recording engineer.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
