On April 2, the Effingham County Pre-K Parent and Child Together program collaborated with the Rincon Branch of the Effingham County Library for this year’s second “Daddy and Me” session.

Among other activities, Pre-K students and their dads enjoyed stories, fingerplays and bubbles with Children’s Librarian Linda Bridges. To conclude the activities, Pre-K transition staff helped students create spring picture magnets for their refrigerators and gave each child a book to take home.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
