Dancing Drum presents Drumming Up Character at BES
Art Festival Drummers 028

On May 14, Blandford Elementary hosted Dancing Drum.

Dancing Drum was founded by Steve Campbell and Lindsay Rust and is based out of Santa Barbara, Calif.

They presented a high energy interactive drum and rhythm program entitled “Drumming Up Character.”  The goal of the program is to “present important ethical themes in a way that speaks to students through the medium of modern music.”

Blandford Elementary students were able to join the pair on stage for rapping, dancing and drumming.  The students thrived in the environment as it caught their imagination, challenged their minds and engaged their body.  All the while, students were learning the true meaning of responsibility, citizenship and fairness.

The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
