D.E.E.N.O.S USAG Level 7 Gymnastics Team kicked off its 2012 competitive season at the Hilton Head Island Invitational, S.C. on Jan. 15. The Level 7 girls took the fifth place team award.

Highlights of the day were: Taylor Doten and Makenzie Kublin scored an 8.85 on vault, Alyssa Le Tourneau scored 8.625 on vault, Braynae Palmer scored 9.025 on vault and Sabrina Saturday with an 8.55 on balance beam.

Recently the Level 7 Team took first place at the Rock and Roll Gymnastics Meet in Martinez. Doten scored a Level 7 career high 36.15 all around with highlights on balance beam (9.25) and floor (9.35). Kublin and Palmer both scored 9.0 on the vault.

The team competed on Feb. 4 in Rincon when D.E.E.N.O.S. hosted the annual February Frenzy.  For information, check out the website www.DEENOS.com or call 826-2011.

Effingham School Board Approves $203M budget with Potential Property Tax Increase

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
