The Utilities Protection Center of Georgia’s mascot, Digger Dog, visited Rincon and Marlow Elementary schools in Effingham to encourage students in second and third grades to “Call Before You Dig.” Sharing safety information and to have a bit of fun, Digger explained the importance of not damaging underground utility lines by digging safely, what not to do around overhead power lines and how to be safe if the lines are down. He also described the smell of natural gas and what students should do if they smell it. Digger also left behind an activity book and information for students to take home.
