SAVANNAH — Beginning this fall, child care professionals seeking the certification necessary for licensure will have a totally online option in a new 15-credit hour certificate program that is accepted by Bright From the Start as the required 40-hour Director’s training.

The Early Childhood Program Administration Technical Certificate of Credit at Savannah Technical College includes three classes that can be completed in 10 weeks online. Courses include Child Care Administration, Child Care Facility Management and Child Care Personnel Management.

“This gives child care center directors in our area an important option,” said Cinda Young, department head for Early Childhood Care and Education. “They won’t have to travel or take an expensive course from a private college or university. The HOPE grant will cover tuition and most fees, making it very affordable for most people and the flexibility of it being completely online makes it easier to fit into a busy schedule.”

The courses contained in the new program are a part of the Early Childhood associate degree program offered by Savannah Technical College, making it an easy transition for those interested to continue their education after completing the certificate.

Through its Early Start Child Care Resource and Referral agency, STC has established relationships with a number of child care providers throughout the region.

“This new program adds another training option for us,” said Early Start Director Sherry Costa. “We know that certification and training help improve the quality of care for all children. We’re expecting many of our providers to enroll in the certificate program.”

Classes begin Sept. 30. For information about the program, contact Cinda Young cyoung@savannahtech.edu or (912) 443-5788. For information about admission to Savannah Technical College, visit www.savannahtech.edu or call (912) 443-5517.
