Ebenezer Elementary School raised money and awareness for the fight against diabetes with a fun run/walk.

Students donated money to the American Diabetes Association through a dress-down day at school, and some parents gave donations on the day of the run/walk.

“Put Diabetes on the Run” raised about $700, according to EES assistant principal Dana Wright, who has lived with diabetes since being diagnosed 18 years ago with type 1.

Three Ebenezer students who have diabetes — Abbey Brannen, Leila Chance and Lucas Hartzog — held "stop diabetes" signs as they led students in the walk.

Brannen and Wright each have served as the Effingham County captain for the American Diabetes Association's annual Kiss-a-Pig campaign. Brannen's team raised $21,343 for ADA in 2013 and Wright's team raised $29,144 the year before.
