Effingham County College and Career Academy was named one of five finalists Thursday for the College and Career Academy of the Year at Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle’s eighth annual business and education summit.

“I am excited Effingham County College and Career Academy was named a finalist for the College and Career Academy of the Year,” Cagle said. “The tremendous partnership between the Effingham County School System, Savannah Technical College, Georgia Ports Authority, and the local business community has produced an incredible, world-class educational institution that is leading Effingham County into the bright economic future of tomorrow. Their proven success at providing our students the relevant, job-related skills they need is more important than ever in the 21st century economy.”

The summit brought together business, industry, and education leaders to discuss and demonstrate the importance of the manufacturing industry in Georgia, and the role education plays in its success. Attendees had an opportunity to hear from college and career academy CEOs as well as manufacturing industry leaders and their community partners as they discussed ways to transform high school learning and new ideas to support the emerging workforce needed in manufacturing.
