ECHS Air Force JROTC cadets get high marks

Air Force JROTC cadets at Effingham County High School received the highest rating possible on a recent assessment given by their Area Administrator (AA), Col. Roger Vick.
 
The “Exceeds Standards” rating this year, in the every-3-year assessment by their AA, was the third consecutive rating for exceeding standards as defined by the Air Force.  
 
Areas of assessment included equipment management, curriculum, cadet operations, unit operations, wellness/physical training, and instructor performance. 
 
Two cadets were awarded the Top Performer Award by the AA. Cadets Kelsey Wilson and Constantine Stephens were recognized for their academics, leadership qualities, community service, and extracurricular activities. They received a certificate and a ribbon to wear from Col. Vick.



Effingham School Board Approves $203M budget with Potential Property Tax Increase

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
