Five officers of the Future Business Leaders of America chapter at Effingham County High School “dive in” for a new year by attending the summer leadership and officer training summit at Swainsboro High School on July 18. Hannah Boyd, president; Michaela Williford, vice president; Vanessa Williams, secretary; Kelsey Fulford, treasurer; and Josie Alford, historian attended the summit to prepare themselves for their roles as officers this year.

Each officer attended a breakout session relating to their specific office and they were given an officer’s manual describing their duties. The advisors met with Monty Rhodes, state FBLA advisor, to go over updates and discuss the State FBLA calendar for the 2011-12 school year.

During the course of the day, officers and advisors participated in team-building and leadership activities to help build leadership skills and promote fellowship among members. The Georgia FBLA theme for this year is “Dive In.”

FBLA is the Career and Technical Student Organization for students enrolled in the business and computer science pathways.

The Effingham County High FBLA chapter is accepting members for the 2011-12 school year now. If you are a student at ECHS and would like to become a member, contact Karen Waltz at kwaltz@effingham.k12.ga.us or see one of the officers during open house. Parents and other FBLA supporters are also encouraged to join the professional division of FBLA.
