ECHS to host autism awareness 5K Saturday

Effingham County High School will host a 5K run/walk for autism awareness April 5 at Rebel Field.

The race will begin at 9 a.m. and will be followed by a free 100-meter kiddie run.

Medals will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place finishers in each age group: 14-and-under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70-and-up. Trophies will be given to the top three overall runners.

Registration is $20, which includes a T-shirt while supplies last.

Registration forms and checks, made out to Effingham County High School, can be mailed to Cathy Zipperer, c/o ECHS, 1589 Highway 119 South, Springfield, GA 31329. Also, credit card payments can be taken over the phone at 754-6404, extension 1229.

A free T-shirt will be given to anyone on the autism spectrum.

The 5K course is described as a flat and fast combination of pavement, concrete, grass and gravel. It will be a modified two-loop run on the grounds of ECHS.
