On Sept. 25, Effingham County High School will host college night for both tech career and college prep seniors from 6-8 p.m. Students and their parents are encouraged to come.
College night this year will include: representatives from Armstrong Atlantic State University, Georgia Southern University, East Georgia College, Savannah Technical College and Ogeechee Technical College will give brief group presentations and then be available for questions and for helping fill out applications.
The ECHS registrar will have students’ transcripts available so that they can be made official and presented immediately to the college representatives.
Representatives from all branches of the armed services will be present to answer questions about how a military career can not only help serve one’s country but can also help to fund a college education.
Preparation booklets, mail-in applications and online application information will be available for both the SAT and the ACT. Students will have an opportunity to discuss whether they need to take one of these tests or the COMPASS test for admissions purposes. They may sign up to take the COMPASS test that night. Students and parents will learn about how the tests are alike and different and what the scoring means for admissions purposes.
Counselors will have student transcripts and be able to assist students and parents in estimating the student’s potential HOPE Scholarship eligibility.
Students will be able to establish a GACOLLEGE411 account to use for financial aid purposes as well as to investigate the site. Students and parents will use this site for applying for PIN number for the Free Application for Federal Student Assistance.
Students who hope to play college sports will have an opportunity to talk with a counselor about NCAA Clearinghouse regulations and learn to access Web information.
Students and parents may read sample essays and ask questions about writing the college essay.
ECHS counselors will be available for questions. Refreshments will be served.
College booths, transcript verification, HOPE estimation and testing information will be available all evening.
Presentations in the lunchroom by college groups will continue throughout the evening.
