On Oct. 1, the upper school students of Effingham Christian School donated their time to work at the Treutlen House. One of the goals of a distinctly Christ-centered and classical education is to teach students to be servants within their community.

The students in grades fifth-11th had a fun time raking leaves and trimming hedges. They learned that serving others can be rewarding work. Effingham Christian School is located on Goshen Road, off Highway 21. To learn more, visit the Web site www.effinghamchristian.org.

Scholarships are still available for the 2010-11 school year for grades pre-k to 11th. The first senior class will graduate in 2012.

The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
